Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! This weekly shared “meme” has a different theme each week and is shared by many blogs. We’re aiming to come up with ten things between us each week so they won’t be in any particular order!
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted at The Broke and the Bookish. For a list of past and future Top Ten Tuesday topics and to find out more about Top Ten Tuesday, click here!
Top Ten Things On My Reading Wishlist (if you could make authors write about these things you would. Could be a specific type of character, an issue tackled, a time period, a certain plot, etc.)
Philippa
- I am yet to find but would totally read a YA book that contained a ballet academy, ghosts or something paranormal and was a period piece. Sounds terrible but I would totally gobble it up!!
Hannah
- I want a novel version of American McGee’s Alice. A steampunk, dark fantasy Alice in Wonderland.
- I also want to see more metamorphosis. Always loved the idea of people turning into animals/weird things, beyond simple “shapeshifting”. Want to see more of this!
Angelya
- Dragons if a story has dragons, I’m in!

Natasha
- In “The Penelopiad’, Margaret Atwood explores the Odessy from the perspective of Odysseus’s long-suffering wife Penelope. I love well-known stories that are told from a minor character’s perspective. It would be amazing if she wrote a version of The Iliad from Helen-of-Troy POV (another Homer companion piece).
- I also enjoy origin stories (like ‘Wicked’ – how the Wicked Witch of the West became so nasty – although I thought the musical was way better then the book!), and would enjoy to see more of these, beautifully written for adults.
- A YA novel that did not have a love triangle! (Only joking!)

Lanaia
I would totally read steampunk Alice in Wonderland 😀 and books with dragons, of course! or any other mythological creatures, like griffins, chimeras..I’m always on the lookout for those 🙂

Nice list, ladies!
Angelya: I love dragons too! I see one of you read Seraphina. Have you read Anne McCaffrey’s Pern novels? And I just discovered Naomi Novik’s Temeraire series this year – alternate-history fantasy with dragons in the Napoleonic Wars.
Hannah: Have you read ‘Splintered’? It plays with the Alice in Wonderland story in a way you might like, even if it’s not steampunk.
Angelya
Yes, I think a few of us have read Seraphina – one of my favorites 🙂 I’m really looking forward to book 2! and yes I have read the Pern series, actually it’s the main reason I love Dragon stories so much 🙂 in fact I was thinking recently it might be time for a re-read soon. Temeraire was recommended to me recently but haven’t got to those yet- thanks for the reminder!
Hannah
I haven’t yet, need to get a hold of it! There are a couple out there that I need to get a hold of. None are quite what I’m after but I’ll gobble up anything Alice! 😀 But doesn’t have to be steampunk. So long as it’s dark, gothic, and creepy.

Angelya
I dunno about you but I always thought the original Alice story was pretty bloody creepy!
Kim @ The Avid Reader
Uh, now I super want to read a dark, steampunk Alice in Wonderland! I hope some authors are reading these posts! 😉

It’s something I always intended to write, actually, but haven’t gotten around to it. >.< Think I need to actually read Alice in Wonderland first. Haha. Hannah recently posted…Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Things On My Reading Wishlist
Hannah
By the way, Philippa: A Breath of Frost! Regency setting, YA paranormal romance with Witches and ghosts and things. 😀

I will have to check it out Hannah! The ballet is the thing I’m really into atm, probably too many kiddy ballet classes plus I just watched black swan which was intense 🙂

Ellie
Not quite the same but Atwood is writing a version of The Tempest! I can’t wait for that. It’s part of a project (from Hogarth books I think, part of Random House) for well known authors to re-write Shakespeares plays as novels.

Oooohh Yay! How exciting. Thanks for letting me know Ellie, I will definitely keep my eye on that project. My TBR list grows by the day 🙂

Anything with dragons is bound to be fantastic!!!
