Special Feature: Aussie YA Bloggers Secret Santa Blog Hop

December 5, 2015 Special Feature 8

The Australian YA Bloggers & Readers Goodreads Group is having a Secret Santa Blog Hop again this year! Let’s find out whether I’ve been a good or naughty blogger this year. Check out the full list in Jeann’s post at Happy Indulgence to hop to the other participants.

Questions:

1. What are your top 5 favourite books this year?

uprooted burn jinxsfire queenofshadows_au winter

2. How did you go with your Goodreads challenge?

I first set the challenge to something like 90 books, but early on I was so far ahead that I upped it to 110. I cut it back down in September or October again because I was getting behind! Now its set to 105 and I’m lagging behind due to some big books I’ve been reading in the last month, but I have a few graphic novels to help me catch up before the end of the year. Sadly once I start my holidays my reading time will dry up – I do almost all my reading in my commute.

3. How many times did you post a week on average? Do you think you’ll post more/less in the future?

Roughly once a week, occasionally more if I’m reading short books or posting podcast episodes. It’s not a lot, and I’d love to increase that next year.

4. What is your favourite blogging moment/achievement of 2015?

This year has been filled with amazing bookish moments! Philippa and I have met so many amazing authors, bloggers and readers at various events, but a big highlight has to be our opportunity to meet and interview Sarah J Maas during her recent tour to Australia and New Zealand. You can read all about that over on Nice Girls Read Books, and our recap will be coming during our next podcast episode very soon.

5. Did you read mostly review or non-review books this year?

As usual, overwhelmingly review books, although I did read quite a few that were already on my shelf or that I bought as part of a series.

6. What are your blogging goals for 2016?

I say this every year but I really would like to engage more with the community by commenting on other blogs and being more active on twitter. I’m already enjoying being part of the #bookstagram craze and I hope to continue that. Who doesn’t love pictures of books?! And finally, to be involved in as many bookish events as humanly possible (got to have a stretch goal, right?).

7. What books are you looking forward to in 2016?

The Winds of Winter (haha, if it is actually released EVER), Throne of Glass #5, The Crown’s Game, Nevernight.. there are many. There will be a “coming in 2016” podcast episode early in the new year – listen out for that!

Based on the answers above, have you been a good or naughty blogger this year?

Meh, average. I actually feel I’ve done pretty well considering I work almost full time and keep two children and a bloke alive, haha.

So can you guess who my Secret Santee is from these clues?

  1. Her blog has a rather creepy and mysterious background to it.

2. She read 14 books during November! Well done!

3. She’s a Virgo 🙂

Have a lovely holiday period, Aussie YA Bloggers and Readers!

Meeting Sarah J. Maas was definitely a highlight of mine too! 2015 was such a great year for author events. I’m so happy that I got to meet Sarah, and also Cassie Clare and Holly Black back in August. Congrats on reading so many books this year and I hope you manage to hit 105 books by the end of the year!

  2. Sarah @ The adventures of SacaKat

Love #bookstagram !!! and I’m with you on trying to engage more with this wonderful Aus YA Blogger community 🙂 I’ve hidden in a corner with a box over my head (symbolically) while everyone was going to all these awesome events, that I really wanted to go to, but I was secretly too scared to step out of my comfort zone :-|.

Aw, you should go to one Sarah 🙂 Book people are usually either pretty friendly or pretty reserved themselves, so don’t feel like you have to introduce yourself to everyone! If you can arrange to go with someone else it helps, though 🙂

  3. Joy @ Thoughts By J

Meeting Sarah was so fun, I hope she comes back to Australia soon! And I hope more UA authors visit us down under too hehe. I think that’s a great blogging goal to have! I’ve definitely fallen behind on visiting everyone’s blogs this past year, and would love to do more of it/meet more amazing bloggers in 2016.

Hmm, I’m not really sure who your Santee is, but I shall figure it out once I visit everyone’s blogs!

Thanks Joy! I really do hope there are plenty of author events in 2016, and that they come to Brisbane 😀 We’re not always so lucky with visitors up here 😛
