Wrap-up: June 2016

June 30, 2016 Wrap-up 4

june2016It’s the end of June already! Time for another look back.

I read eleven books during June, two of which were novellas. Once again, I acquired more books than I read. Oops!

This month was filled with exams for Philippa and a rather major assignment for me, but we did read The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye as our first Two Little Birds book club read! We have recorded our discussion for this book, and it will be published in the next couple of days so stay tuned.

We went along to the launch of Threader at the Avid Reader bookshop at West End, here in Brisbane. Threader is a dystopian thriller, about an academy for gifted students, and the author Rebekah Turner was really friendly. We’re hoping to chat to her again very soon!

The Lifeline Bookfest was on in Brisbane in the last week of June. Philippa and I both went on multiple days and ended up with a few large stacks of books, mostly for our kids. It’s for a great cause so if you’re in Brisbane, head down to the Convention Centre before the end of this weekend (July 3).

And… there’s not much else to say about June – it was a very busy month so there wasn’t a lot of reading-related activity going on. Hopefully we can make up for that in July.

It’s time for the half-yearly look at the Goodreads challenge, and I’m very happy with 58 books out of 110 – 4 books ahead of schedule. Perhaps I need to read some bigger books!

Coming in July

A Darker Shade final for IreneOur book club book for July will be A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. Grab your copy today – we will discuss it in early August, so there’s plenty of time to read it.

I hope you had a great month of June, and happy reading!

I am about 3/4 of the way through “The Crown’s Game” so I should finish it by the time you guys post the podcast/discussion. And I am sooooooooooooo excited for your next pick. I have been wanting to get to “A Darker Shade of Magic” for sometime now. I’ve downloaded the audiobook but had a hard time getting into it and I’m certain that a physical copy of the book has been checked out from the library, brought home and then returned without ever being touched. Possibly more than one time… So this will be the perfect reason to actually dig in and read it. Two enthusiastic thumbs up on selection!

Excellent! Yes, it’s been on my kindle for ages now but I’ve never got to it! I’m looking forward to finally reading it – it sounds great 🙂
Everything has been so busy this month, we’re running pretty late with our discussion, oops. I’m hoping to get it posted tonight!
