Welcome to Tea in the Treetops, and Angelya’s goals list for yet another Bout of Books Read-a-thon!
Here’s a bit of information about the read-a-thon:
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 17 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team
I’m a big fan of the Bout of Books read-a-thon – it’s a great opportunity to focus on the to-read pile, before I move house in September.
You can see all my updates as I progress further down on this post.
The Dream Thieves, Maggie Stiefvater
- Elizabeth and Zenobia, Jessica Miller
- Carousel, Brendan Ritchie
- A Torch Against the Night, Sabaa Tahir
There may be a few extras, depending on whether I get to the library this week.
Edit: Throwing caution to the wind, I have added to the list:
- Queen of Shadows, Sarah J Maas (a re-read ahead of the release of book 5!)
Mechanica, Lance Balchin Doctor Who: Fountains of Forever, Nick Abadzis
- Saga vol 3, Brian K Vaughan
I’m also listening to On the Jellicoe Road on audiobook!
Day 1: Monday 22th
Books read: The Dream Thieves, Maggie Stiefvater, pages 59-155 (96 pages)
Pages read: 96
Page total: 96
Comments: Not too many pages for the first day. Hoping to improve on that as the week goes on. I’m enjoying getting back with Blue and the Raven Boys though!
Day 2: Tuesday 23th
Books read: The Dream Thieves, Maggie Stiefvater, pages 156-450 (end) (294 pages)
Pages read: 294
Page total: 390
Comments: That’s more like it! Stayed up late finishing The Dream Thieves. I didn’t love it quite as much as the first book, but still a great read! This series is going in interesting directions I wasn’t expecting, which it seems is pretty standard for Maggie Stiefvater! I’ll have to get my hands on Blue Lily, Lily Blue soon.
Day 3: Wednesday 24th
Books read: Queen of Shadows, Sarah J Maas, pages 1-110
Pages read: 110
Page total: 500
Comments: I suddenly realised that it’s barely two weeks until Empire of Storms will be with us! I thought I’d try to jam in a quick re-read of Queen of Shadows, since I need a refresh. I’d forgotten how much Aelin and Chaol frustrated me early on in this book, both behaving like idiots 🙁 And Rowan hasn’t even made an appearance yet!
Day 4: Thursday 25th
Books read: Queen of Shadows, Sarah J Maas, pages 110-224
Pages read: 114
Page total: 614
Comments: Okay, here’s Rowan. This is the part of the book I didn’t much like, but I can’t seem to put it down.
Day 5: Friday 26th
Books read: Queen of Shadows, Sarah J Maas, pages 224-317
Pages read: 93
Page total: 707
Comment: Fridays are my day off at home with my little one, so 93 pages is actually a whole lot more than I was expecting to get read! Gradually making in-roads into QoS.
Day 6: Saturday 27th
Books read: Queen of Shadows, Sarah J Maas, pages 317-341 , Mechanica, Lance Balchin, 32 pages, Doctor Who: Fountains of Forever, Nick Abadzis, 136 pages
Pages read: 192
Page total: 899
Comment: So we’re moving house in the next few weeks. Not a lot of time for sitting around reading today, but I did get a chance to read both of these graphic novels on my list! Love these Doctor Who comics while the series break is on. Mechanica is a beautiful steampunk-ish large format book with plenty of drawings of mechanical birds and insects.
Day 7: Sunday 28th
Books read: Queen of Shadows, Sarah J Maas, pages 341-438
Pages read: 97
Page total: 996
Comment: I am loving this re-read, even if it’s not my favourite out of the series so far. Some re-reads I feel like I want to skip parts, but not with this one!
Overall total: 996 pages, one book, two graphic novels and most of a second book. Perhaps I should have stayed up a little later to get those extra four pages in!! I hope you reached your reading targets this week, and had fun too!
