Wrap-up: June/July 2017

July 31, 2017 Wrap-up 2

July has come to and end, and since I seem to have completely missed the end of June, I’ll combine for a double-header wrap up.

So I was supposed to be on holidays from my uni work, which should have theoretically opened up the time and brain-space for catching up on reading, right? In fact, it just paved the way for epic brain fatigue and reading slump. In a whole two months I’ve read a total of seven books, three of which were graphic novels.

But I’m gradually getting back into it. I read The Handmaid’s Tale before I watched the TV series, and loved it. Such a brilliantly written book, and different from your average current YA dystopia. Philippa and I discuss the book and series in episode 56 of our podcast.

In episode 55 we talked about a whole list of books coming out later in 2017, so get your TBR ready before you listen.

And that’s all there is to say about June and July! I’m hoping to get back into posting reviews soon, so bear with me. Sometimes the slump just won’t shift, y’know?

Man, I bet your TBR piles are getting epic huge while in uni. I do not miss that time in my life!!!

My personal reading theme of 2017 continues in June and July with a whole mess of rereads!

-Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (audio)
-Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (audio)
-Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Mass (rereading series in anticipation of Tower of Dawn)
*decided to put TOG reread on hold until I finish Harry Potter series. I can’t split my
emotions between two of my favorite fictional worlds without cheapening both
-Waking Gods (Themis Files #2) by Sylvain Neuvel (audiobook was fabulous!!! I wish I had done the audio for the first book, it completely enhanced the experience)
-Sons of Ares #2 by Pierce Brown (Red Rising comic)
-Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies (Pottermore Presents #1) I ordered these ebooks when they first came out and just never got around to them. Now that I’m fully invested in all things Harry Potter, I need to research and know EVERYTHING!
-Short Stories from Hogwarts oof Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists (Pottermore Presents #2)
-Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide (Pottermore Presents #3)
-Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (audio) Even though I’ve read this book about 6 times, I will never be okay with what happened to Padfoot. I listened to this audio, cried. Then had to go read this part in the book so I could see the actual words on the page since I can never actually accept it.
-Containment by Hank Parker (audio, decent enough but was mostly just filling time until my copy of HBP on audio was available for checkout. I like to get myself all worked up over potential virus outbreak pandemics!)
-Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (audio) Still not over Dumbledore either. My man dude assured me that I would find a way to live again, as I have after every time I’ve read or watched the movie. He knows nothing.
-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (audio) This was a great listen. They all were. However, this is the only book in the series that I have only read one time. I speed read it when it first came out so I could learn everything that happened. I told myself I’d pick it back up again straight away and read it for pleasure but I could never do it. The story was over and I couldn’t revisit it. It was really nice to be reminded of everything that happened in #7, especially all the ways it is different from the movies. Which has been my go to when I need an HP fix. Experiencing this series again was very special and completely enhanced my epic love for everything Harry Potter
-The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas #arobynncangoaheadanddieinafire

So, not too shabby. Doesn’t feel like I read all that much since the majority was stuff I’ve already read but I’ll take whatever I can get!

The TBR is getting huge! And worst thing is, I am in such a huge slump that I can’t bring myself to actually read much at the moment 🙁
Doesn’t look like you’re having a problem though! Look at all those lovely HP re-reads 🙂 I hope you recovered okay from all the heartbreak
