Bout of Books Read-a-thon 18 – Goals

January 1, 2017 Special Feature 2

Happy New Year! Welcome to Tea in the Treetops, and Angelya’s goals list for yet another Bout of Books Read-a-thon.

Here’s a bit of information about the read-a-thon:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 2nd and runs through Sunday, January 8th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 18 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

I love joining in with the Bout of Books read-a-thon, and for this one, I happen to be on holidays all week. That doesn’t always mean I get a lot of reading time, but I am going to do my best in between entertaining my kiddies!

You can see all my updates as I progress further down on this post.

My list this week includes:

I’m starting cautiously this week, in case I get a lot less reading time than I hope I will. There are always back-ups!

Happy reading, everyone.

Day 1: Monday 2nd

Books read: Aerie, Maria Dahvana Headley, pages 89-168 (79 pages)
Pages read: 79
Page total: 79
Comments: As I said above, I’m home on holidays with my family this week. I got a little reading time in, but there is plenty to keep me distracted around the place! I’ll try to do a little more tomorrow. I’m enjoying Aerie though, now that I’m further into it!

Day 2: Tuesday 3rd

Books read: Aerie, Maria Dahvana Headley, pages 168-181 (13 pages)
Pages read: 13
Page total: 92
Comments: Complete read-a-thon fail today! I spent a lot of the day trying to decide what to upgrade my phone to, only to discover that Telstra won’t come to the party and I’ll have to wait until the end of January for the end of my contract after all *grumble* Okay, end of rant.

I wanted to sit down and read, but I just didn’t get a chance. I did, however, go and see Rogue One for the second time tonight! So Epic!

Day 3: Wednesday 4th

Books read: Aerie, Maria Dahvana Headley, pages 181-end (126 pages)
Pages read: 126
Page total: 218
Comments: Got a lot more time to read today, and finished my first book. I enjoyed Aerie, although there were plenty of characters and things that happened in Magonia that I couldn’t remember. I recommend reading these two back to back. The writing style is very conversational and may not be for everyone, but there’s a magic system involving singing which is just awesome.

Day 4: Thursday 5th

Books read: The Fifth Avenue Artists Society, pages 158-246 (53 pages)
Pages read: 53
Page total: 271
Comments: Time to pick this book up again – I had put it down before Christmas to read a couple of other things. It’s a story of artists and musicians in New York in the 1890s, and even though the story is interesting now and then, the first half has been really slow 🙁

Day 5: Friday 6th

Books read: The Fifth Avenue Artists Society, pages 105-158 (88 pages)
Pages read: 88
Page total: 359
Comment: I had a bit more time to read today, but I’m really not enjoying this book as much as I hoped to. It’s just.. slow. Perhaps I’ve just been reading too many action-packed books lately, but this one is really dragging. I don’t really want to dnf it though, so I’ll push through.

Day 6: Saturday 7th

Books read: Nothing :O
Pages read:
Page total:
Comment: No time to read today!

Day 7: Sunday 8th

Books read: The Fifth Avenue Artists Society, pages 158-277 (119 pages)
Pages read: 119
Page total: 478
Comment: Omg, how am I not finished this book yet? Things have finally started to happen, but it’s really not encouraging me to get on and finish it. Oh well :-/

Overall total:

478 pages – a lot less than previous Bouts of Books! I guess reading while on summer holidays with the kids isn’t the best time to try to read 😛 It also didn’t help that the books I was reading weren’t my favourite. I hope you had a more productive week than I did!

Anni lives in Brisbane, Australia with her young family. She loves everything fantasy and science fiction and believes sleep is really very underrated.
